Redlands Men's Basketball Loses rematch to Puget Sound

TACOMA, Wash. – In a rematch of a game played a week ago inside Currier Gym, the University of Redlands Men's Basketball team faced off against the University of Puget Sound, this time on the road, and they lost in nearly the same scoreline, 83-67.

The Bulldogs and Loggers were tied on three different occasions early, but a 10-2 run at the 13:59 mark of the first half gave the Bulldogs a 16-11 lead. Robert Power (Pacific Palisades, CA), Justice Marmara (Arlington, TX), and Neil Owens (Pasadena, CA) all scored during the run.

Redlands maintained their lead until the 10:45 mark when the Loggers reclaimed the lead after a made free throw. A converted and-one from Marmara :40 seconds later would give the advantage back to UR at 25-24.

The game was tied at 26 and 28 before the Loggers started to pull away. At the 3:37 mark of the half, the Bulldogs faced a six-point deficit, at 38-32, but scored a quick six points to tie the game at 38 with 2:06 left. Owens, Nathan Anderson (Los Angeles, CA), and Power all found baskets during the run, but Redlands still saw themselves trailing 43-40 at the break.

Romeo Mays (Vallejo, CA) tied the game up out of the half with a layup inside, but it was a slow offensive start for both teams. Later on the game remained tied at 50-50 with 12:08 left after Darne Duckett (Oakland, CA) finished a layup.

But after that the Bulldogs conceded seventeen unanswered, while going scoreless over the 5:09 stretch that put the game away for the Loggers. The Bulldogs did continue to fight though, scoring 17 points over the final 6:59, but it wouldn't be enough as UPS would get revenge on their earlier loss to the Maroon and Grey.

After a balanced attack against Pacific Lutheran the night before, the Bulldogs managed only two players in double figures as Marmara and Owen both scored double-digit points with Marmara scoring a team-high 20. Mays led the way with 11 rebounds in only 21 minutes as the Bulldogs shot a solid 45 percent from the field, while only converting 3-of-18 from deep and 58.8% from the free-throw line.

The Bulldogs stay in the pacific northwest as they head south to Oregon to face off against George Fox University on Tuesday, November 23 at 7:00 p.m.
