Bulldog Men's Basketball Wins Four Straight with a Big 94-77 Victory over Pomona-Pitzer at Home

The University of Redlands men's basketball team used 47 bench points and a late surge to push past Pomona-Pitzer Colleges, 94-77, in an exciting Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) battle on Saturday night.

Once sophomore forward Kameron Wright's (Fontana, CA) layup took the lid off the basket nearly three minutes into the game, the Bulldogs went on a 10-2 run that featured baskets from five different players.

Despite the Sagehens knotting the game up at 10-apiece, the Maroon and Gray regained momentum with triples from junior guard Vincenzo Ferrari (Burlingame, CA), senior forward David Menary (Grass Valley, CA), and Jack Roggin (Toluca Lake, CA) to build a 27-17 advantage with 4:11 left in the half.

However, the Sagehens finished strong and went into halftime with a slight 32-31 lead.

Nonetheless, Ferrari ignited a packed Currier Gym with a pair of back-to-back treys as soon as he checked into the second half to open up a 43-38 lead at the 15:53-mark.

As Pomona-Pitzer began to close the gap, the Bulldogs looked to the perimeter as junior forward Spencer Bandow (Covina, CA) sank a three-pointer off of an assist from Roggin to make it 53-48 nearly midway through the second half. Minutes later, first-year guard Aiden Williams (Portland, OR) provided a spark with a three-pointer of his own, in addition to a layup and then an assist on the Bulldogs' next three baskets. Roggin forced the Sagehens to call a timeout as he stole the ball and took it coast-to-coast to make it 64-58 with 8:27 left to play.

In the final six minutes of the game, Vincenzo accounted for 13 points to help close out Pomona-Pitzer. After Williams found him for a triple at the 6:13-point, he sank another pair of treys in less than a minute to extend the Bulldogs' lead to 82-66 with 4:26 on the clock. Vincenzo scored another four points, which was then followed by back-to-back dunks from first-year forward Griffin Barker (Kirkland, WA) and Menary to seal the 94-77 victory for the Maroon and Gray.

For the game, Vincenzo led with a team-high 22 points and seven assists in 19 minutes off the bench. He went 6-for-8 from the perimeter and also tallied three rebounds and a pair of steals. Barker paced the starting unit with a near double-double on 19 points and eight rebounds, while Roggin registered 10 points, six rebounds, six assists, and a game-high three steals.

As a team, the Bulldogs shot 46.3% from the field on 31-for-67 shooting and shot a 12-for-26 clip from downtown for 46.2%. They also tallied 10 more assists than the Sagehens (22-12) and outscored their bench, 47-20.

Redlands (14-6, 7-4) culminates a three-game homestand with a SCIAC battle against Chapman University on Wednesday, February 12, at 7 p.m.
