The University of Redlands men's basketball team suffered its second Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) loss in a row on Saturday, falling to the Stags of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges by a score of 67-76. Senior center Jack Colston (Dana Point, CA) provided a career-high 23 points, but it wasn't enough as the Bulldogs trailed from the opening basket.

Redlands kept it close with a single-digit deficit until the 7:34-mark of the first frame, when the Stags drained their third three-pointer of the half to make it 29-18 in their favor.

The Bulldogs rallied back to make it a six-point game when Colston hit a jumper less than four minutes into the second period.

But CMS quickly answered with an 11-2 run that more or less put the game away.

Overall, Redlands stepped up defensively in the second half, holding its opponents to a 37% shooting performance while equaling their scoring output with 39 points each.

Colston led the Maroon and Gray with 23 points, including a near-perfect performance from the charity stripe. He also added seven rebounds and two assists. Junior guard Tristan Kirk (Redlands, CA) backed him with 14 points, while senior forward Mychal Estrada (Redlands, CA) came off the bench for 12.

Chris Blees provided a double-double for the undefeated Stags, scoring 18 points and pulling in 10 rebounds. Fourteen of his points came at the free-throw line. Three other players scored 10 or more points for CMS (14-0, 2-0 SCIAC).

The Bulldogs (6-8, 1-2 SCIAC) continue to compete on the road with Wednesday's 7:30 p.m. tilt at Occidental College.
