The University of Redlands men's basketball team suffered its first Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) loss of the season on Wednesday, falling to the visiting Sagehens of Pomona-Pitzer Colleges by a score of 60-51.  Just days after lighting up the scoreboard with 103 points, the Bulldog offense suffered a 12-minute drought against the Sagehens, resulting in a 13-0 run by the opponents for a lead that held up through the final whistle.

After a back-and-forth start to the game, Redlands nabbed a five-point lead at the 6:33-mark of the opening frame when senior forward Stephen Call (Portola Valley, CA) drained a three-pointer.

However, this was the Bulldogs' final basket until nearly six minutes into the second period. It was Call's hand that finally sank a shot with 14:14 to go in the game. He finished the night with 10 points as one of two Redlands players in double figures.

The Maroon and Gray cut the deficit to three at the 12:11-mark when senior center Jack Colston (Dana Point, CA) dropped in a three-pointer, but Pomona-Pitzer quickly built a 10-point lead just a few minutes later.

Redlands hung in there by taking advantage of the Sagehens' 16 turnovers with 12 points. The Bulldogs also scored 10 second-chance points, compared to their opponents' four. The Maroon and Gray knocked down an impressive 92.9% of shots from the free-throw line, while Pomona-Pitzer only went 15-for-22 at the stripe.

Nonetheless, Redlands shot merely 27.3% for the game, seemingly unable to penetrate the figurative lid on the basket.

Pomona-Pitzer (7-5, 2-0 SCIAC) scored at a clip of 39.1% but converted an impressive 45% of its shots from beyond the arc. Sophomore forward John Weiss (Cleveland, OH) posted a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds. Freshman forward Jack Klukas (Eden Prairie, MN) led all players with 13 points, while freshman guard Michael Cohen (Tarzana, CA) came off the bench for 10 points.

Besides Call, Redlands gained double-digit scoring from junior guard Brian Kuklok (Poway, CA) with 12. Junior guard Tristan Kirk (Redlands, CA) pulled in a team-high nine rebounds and sophomore forward Eric Radford (Federal Way, WA) dished out five assists.

Redlands (6-7, 1-1 SCIAC) strives to rebound during its three-game road stint, beginning with Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges on Saturday at 7 p.m.
