Redlands Men's Basketball Falters against Chapman University in Regional Showdown

The University of Redlands men's basketball team took to the road on Saturday night, facing regional rival Chapman University in Orange, but struggled to shut down the Panthers' three-point shooting en route to the 61-68 loss.

After trailing for much of the first half, the Bulldogs mustered more than one comeback to finally tie it up at the break. The final effort came in the last four minutes as Redlands uncorked an 8-0 run to knot the score at 27-all. Six of these points came on well-executed and-one plays by junior guard Brian Kuklok (Poway, CA) and junior forward Josiah Brensdal (Kent, WA).

However, Chapman unleashed a 9-0 run to take an early lead in the second period, which ultimately stood up through the final whistle.

Redlands rallied back within three at 59-62 when senior center Jack Colston (Dana Point, CA) dropped in a free throw, but Chapman's Brandon Lin hit another jumper to make it a five-point game with less than a minute to play. As the Panthers converted their final four shots from the charity stripe, the Bulldogs could never make up the difference.

By the end of the game, the Panthers had converted four more shots from beyond the arc and nine more attempts at the free-throw line than the Bulldogs.

Colston recorded a double-double for Redlands, scoring 10 points and pulling in 10 rebounds. He also offered four steals, three assists, and two blocks for a well-rounded performance. Junior guard Tristan Kirk (Redlands, CA) led the Maroon and Gray with 11 points while dishing out a team-high four assists.

Lin finished with 20 points for the second time in as many outings for the Panthers (6-4).

Redlands (3-4) looks to rebound when it takes to the court in San Antonio, TX, for the Trinity National Invitational Tournament. The Bulldogs battle it out with Northwest Conference foes Pacific Lutheran University (WA) and the University of Puget Sound (WA) on Wed. and Thurs., respectively.
