Redlands Men's Basketball Drops 71-89 Decision to Pepperdine

The University of Redlands men's basketball team faced off against Division I Pepperdine University in last night's non-conference tilt at the Firestone Fieldhouse in Malibu.  The Bulldogs endured a six-minute drought late in the first half to go down by 19 and never fully recovered en route to the 71-89 loss to the Waves.

With a 15-point deficit at the break, Redlands came out firing on all cylinders and knocked down 46.9% of its shots in the second half.  Senior guard Kent Ervin (Bend, OR) hit three of his four three-pointers late in the game to help the Bulldogs record 46 points to Pepperdine's 49 in the second stanza.  He finished with a team-high 15 points, along with two steals.

Redlands pulled within 11 with less than 10 minutes remaining but a six-point spurt by the Waves kept the Bulldogs at bay.

Senior center Jordan Sanvictores (Redwood City, CA) and senior forward Stephen Call (Portola Valley, CA) chipped in 10 apiece for the Maroon and Gray.  Sophomore guard Tristan Kirk (Redlands, CA) grabbed a team-high eight rebounds.

Pepperdine gained a 20-point performance off the bench from Lorne Jackson.  Keion Bell added 19 points and nine rebounds, while Taylor Darby went 5-for-6 for 17 points, including seven free-throws.

The Bulldogs shot 90.9% from the charity stripe and recorded one less turnover than Pepperdine.  The Waves controlled the rebounding battle by a 48-30 margin.

Redlands (2-5) next competes on Sat., Dec. 18, at 7:30 p.m. against Concordia University – Irvine, the sixth-ranked NAIA team in the country.
