Game 3: George Fox Wins with Last-Second Shot

George Fox came up with an exciting 69-67 victory over Menlo in the third game of the day, hitting a last-ditch three-pointer with one second to play.

Despite trailing by 13 points early in the game, the Oaks of Menlo College tied it up at 22 with just over nine minutes to go in the opening period.

George Fox appeared to be in control of the game, earning another lead of 11 points with 14:01 remaining in the second half.

However, Menlo rallied back to tie it a second time with 2:31 to go.

Then, senior wing Evan Atwater (Port Orchard, WA) hit a jumper to give the Bruins a two-point lead but a George Fox foul put junior guard Drew Davis (Windsor, CA) at the line for the Oaks. He converted both shots to tie it again at 65 with 1:06 remaining.

Now the Oaks had to foul and sent sophomore wing Corey Whitehurst (Portland, OR) to the charity stripe, but he only sank one, making it a one-point game.

Menlo’s junior post Nick McCullar (Lawndale, CA) answered with a jump shot to give the lead back to the Oaks, 67-66.

This time, the Bruins fouled to send Davis to the line, but he missed the first of a one-and-one opportunity as senior post Alex Stockner (Monmouth, OR) nabbed a big rebound for George Fox.

In a broken play to the basket, Stockner dished the ball out to Atwater who nailed a three-pointer for the win with one second remaining.

The Oaks attempted a long pass in the final play but to no avail.
