Redlands Men's Basketball Falls to Cal Lutheran, 43-58

The University of Redlands men’s basketball team competed in its second-to-last home game of the season on Wednesday night, suffering a 43-58 loss to the Kingsmen of Cal Lutheran University in a Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) game. The Bulldogs held a two-point advantage with 14:30 to go in the first half when sophomore forward Matt Dietrich (Phoenix, AZ) sank a jumper. However, Cal Lu quickly took control of the game and never relinquished the lead, resulting in a tough loss for Redlands.

The Bulldogs struggled from the free throw line, making only 10 of 18 opportunities. In addition, the Redlands men’s basketball team lost the rebounding battle by a count of 26-42, with two Kingsmen pulling down 10 or more boards.

As the only Redlands player in double figures, junior guard Patrick Coffey (San Carlos, CA) carried the Bulldogs with 12 points. Dietrich added eight while sophomore guard Patrick Keating (Fountain Hills, AZ) chipped in seven points.

The Kingsmen had four scorers in double digits with Kyle Knudsen leading the team with 15. Aaron Fisher added 14 points and 10 rebounds, while Aaron Van Klaveren also contributed a double-double with 12 points and 11 boards. Greg Grimm rounded out the CLU scoring leaders with 11 points.

Redlands (8-15, 4-8 SCIAC) heads to Caltech on Saturday for a 7:30 p.m. tip-off as part of the last conference doubleheader of the season. The women’s team also takes on the Beavers, beginning at 5 p.m.
