The University of Redlands men’s basketball team captured
an important road-win over the University of La Verne on Saturday
night, defeating the Leopards by a score of 61-48.
After stretching their first-half advantage to 22 points, the
Bulldogs held off a late-game rally by La Verne, which moved it
within five at the seven-minute mark. Redlands responded by scoring
12 points to the Leopards’ nine in the waning minutes,
resulting in a hard-fought victory for the Bulldogs.
Junior guard Patrick Coffey (San Carlos, CA) carried the team with
17 points, while sophomore center Andrew Mills (Newcastle, WA)
posted his season-high with 14 points, connecting on 7-of-10 shots.
Sophomore forward Matt Dietrich (Phoenix, AZ) and junior forward
Bryan Schwartz (Las Vegas, NV) each chipped in nine.
The Bulldogs shot 76.9% from the charity stripe and tallied an
overall makr of 47.1%.
La Verne held a slight edge in rebounding at 31-29.
Redlands (8-14, 4-7 SCIAC) returns home on Wednesday night for
another Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference
(SCIAC) game as the Bulldogs host Cal Lutheran University at 7:30
p.m.
