Bulldog Men's Basketball Unable to Stop Whittier

The University of Redlands men’s basketball team traveled to Whittier College on Wednesday night and struggled against the Poets’ 61.5 first-half shooting percentage. Despite out-scoring them in the second half, the Bulldogs came out on the losing end of the game, 61-92.

Redlands shot well from beyond the arc, going 9-for-15 for 60.0%, including a second-half showing of 6-for-7. However, the offense settled for an overall mark of 39.1%, compared to Whittier’s impressive 50.7% performance. The Poets also took advantage of opportunity by scoring 24 points in the paint and converting 24 points off of Redlands’ 20 turnovers.

The Bulldogs gained a game-high 25 points from junior guard Patrick Coffey (San Carlos, CA), who knocked down five of seven shots from long range. He shot 53.8% from the floor and connected on 6-for-8 at the charity stripe. Coffey also provided two steals, one assist and one block.

The Poets gained double figures from five players, including a 22-point burst off the bench from Travis Crow.

Redlands returns home on Saturday night for a conference doubleheader with the women’s team, taking on the Sagehens of Pomona-Pitzer Colleges. The women tip off at 5 p.m., followed by the men’s game at 7:30 p.m.
