Seven U of R Football players named CSC Academic All-Region

REDLANDS, Calif. – The College Sports Communicators (CSC) announced their 2022 Academic All-District Team, and the University of Redlands football team has seven members. The seven recipients are wide receiver Evan Aguon (San Diego, CA), defensive lineman Dawson Brokman (Martinez, CA), wide receiver Michael Mindnich (Bellingham, WA), wide receiver Graig Padgett (Steilacoom, WA), offensive lineman Dominic Perez (Fontana, CA), defensive back Marvin Perkins Jr. (Las Vegas, NV), and tight end Brady Roy Welch (Wilcox, AZ).

Aguon was an All-Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) First Team member and was a SCIAC Specialist of the week (Sept. 14).

He finished 2022 as the Bulldogs leading receiver with a career-high 502 yards and five receiving touchdowns. He also returned punts and kicks which he totaled 518 yards on kickoffs and 229 yards on punts. His kickoff yards are sixth most in a single-season and his punt return yards are 10th most. He also averaged 14.3 yards per punt return (8th).

In a game at Pomona-Pitzer (Sept. 10) he got in the top-10 single-game records with 11 receptions (T-8th) and three touchdowns (T-3rd). He is a Business Administration major and plans to become a Fitness or Strength Trainer/Coach after graduation.  

Brokman posted career-highs of 27 total tackles, five sacks, 5.5 tackles for loss, and two pass breakups. In a game vs. Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (Sept. 24) he had a career-high two sacks. At Chapman (Oct. 15) he made a career-high seven tackles. He is a Business Administration major and plans to attend Law School after graduation.

Mindnich had a breakout senior season with 27 catches for 294 yards and three touchdowns, all career-highs. In a 27-24 come-from-behind, overtime win vs. Pomona-Pitzer (Oct. 29), he caught a career-high seven passes for 64 yards. He is an Accounting and Financial Economics double major and plans to own his business.

Padgett played in six games after only making one appearance in 2021. He had eight receptions for 110 yards and two touchdowns, all career firsts. His first career reception and yards came at Pomona-Pitzer (Sept. 10) when he had three catches for 30 yards. At Chapman (Oct. 15) he caught his first career touchdown. He is a Business Administration major and wants to own his own Sports Business after graduation.  

Perez played in all 10 games on the offensive line as only a sophomore. The offensive averaged 25.9 points per game, 281.5 total yards, 121.2 rushing yards, and 160.3 passing yards. He is an Economics major.  

Perkins Jr. returned to the play after not playing in 2021 or 2020. He finished the season with 17 tackles, two pass breakups, and his fourth career interception. He had four games with three tackles and his interception came in the game at Chapman (Oct. 15). He is a graduate student in Business Administration and plans to work in the business field after graduation.  

Welch posted a career-high with four receptions and 38 yards in his senior season. He posted a career day in a road win at Cal Lutheran (Oct. 8) when he had two catches for 27 yards. He is a Business Administration major and plans to go to Chiropractor School.
