Football Preview: University of Redlands at Pomona-Pitzer

REDLANDS, Calif. – The University of Redlands Football team is back in action this weekend as they travel for the first time here in 2022.  They will head to Claremont, Calif. to take on Pomona-Pitzer in a non-conference game, tomorrow, Saturday, September 10 with kickoff set for 7:05 p.m.

The Bulldogs and Sagehens will meet twice this season with an away-home slate.  Following this weekend's away game the Bulldogs will then host the Sagehens on Saturday, October 29 for a Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) showdown.

Week 1 Results

University of Redlands

In week one at home against George Fox University, the Bulldogs led 14-0 in the first quarter and held a 21-14 at the half. The Bruins were able to tie the game at 21 quickly out of the break before taking a lead minutes later. But the Maroon and Grey were able to come back to tie things up at 31-31 with 4:47 left in the game before the Bruins connected on a 78 yard touchdown to secure the road win. 

In his first career start, Myles Herrera (Yucaipa, CA) threw for 234 yards and scored three total touchdowns, two through the air and another on the ground. Andrew Kellstrom (San Bernardino, CA) ran for a career-high 129 yards and added a touchdown, along with another 29 yards receiving. Evan Aguon (San Diego, CA) was three yards off his career-high as he had nine catches for 106 yards.  He also had 169 total return yards on seven returns.

Defensively the Bulldogs saw a number of highlights with Jacob Sega (Oceanside, CA) totaling nine tackles (7 solo, 2 assisted), Scott Tinsley (Capitola, CA) with a pick and four tackles, Cole Smith (Gaston, OR) with a forced fumble, which was recovered by Maximus Susi (San Diego, CA) and Jax Lee (Richland, WA) provided a tackle for a 16-yard loss.  

Pomona-Pitzer

The Sagehens went on the road last week against Willamette University and took advantage of a 41-0 lead after 45 minutes to defeat the Bearcats 44-21. 

Sagehen quarterback Skylar Nobles had 340 total yards on 31 opportunities, including 15-18 passing for 212 yards and two touchdowns, and 13 carries for 128 yards and three touchdowns.

Series History

Last season the Bulldogs won at home 34-18. Overall, this a series the Bulldogs have dominated, winning 19 in a row dating back to 2002.
