REDLANDS, Calif.- The University of Redlands football team is coming off of their second bye week of the season. In the Bulldogs last game against Chapman University at Ted Runner Stadium the Maroon and Grey came from behind with a 28-24 win after trailing 14-0. This week they travel to face the Whittier College Poets with an opportunity to become the 2021 Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Football Champions, while clinching the AQ Bid into the NCAA Division III National Championships.

The Poets have struggled this season, currently 0-8, 0-5 SCIAC. Their last win coming on October 12, 2019 when they beat Occidental College 21-18. Their most competitive game this season was a 50-26 home loss against the University of La Verne. A week before that they took on Cal Lutheran University on Saturday, October 30, where they fell 45-8.

Overall, the Poets have failed to reach a pass completion percentage at 50% in six of their eight games and have rushed for negative yards twice. One positive area for the Poets is their pass rush, where they recorded two or more sacks in each of their first six games but have failed to record any in their last two.

Series History

The Bulldogs have won the previous thirteen meetings. The average margin of victory in those games is 41.3 points per game. The closest contest during that stretch was in 2010 when the Bulldogs won by twelve, 26-14, on the road. The last loss against the Poets came back in 2006 when the Bulldogs fell on the road, 28-21, in overtime.

What's At Stake

With a win the Bulldogs will win at least a share of the 2021 SCIAC Championship and will earn the AQ into the Division III National Championships. They would also move to 5-0 in conference and boast the best record over Claremont-Mudd-Scripps and Chapman University.  Due to the Bulldogs winning the head-to-head games against both the Stags and Panthers earlier in the season, they now hold the tie breaker with them in the event they finish with the same record.
