Senior Kicker Alex Raya Earns SCIAC Football Specialist Athlete of the Week Award

The Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) offices announced its weekly awards and senior kicker Alex Raya (Jamul, CA) earned football Specialist of the Week honors for the first time in his career.

Raya reset a school-record with his 56-yard field goal to give the Bulldogs their first points in a 33-14 victory over Cal Lutheran University. He also made another field goal and three point-after attempts in the victory. Raya booted seven kickoffs for 440 yards with an average of 62 yards per kickoff. He also punted the ball away four times for 158 yards with his longest coming at 47 yards.

He topped his previous-best kick of 52 yards that he converted last week against the University of La Verne and also took down the previous record of 55 yards that Nathan Hierlihy set in 2018. For the season, Raya has accounted for 71 points on 11 field goals and 38 extra points. His 56-yard field goal leads the SCIAC this season by four yards.

Nationally, Raya sits in fourth with 11 field goals and fifth in field goals per game with 1.38.
