U of R Football Rises One Spot on D3football.com and AFCA Polls

It was announced today that the University of Redlands football team climbed one spot on the D3football.com and American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Top-25 polls to No. 18 and No. 19, respectively, for week four. The Bulldogs impressed in their first three games against all tough, Pacific Northwest teams, including then-No. 11 Linfield College (OR).

Junior quarterback Nathan Martinez (Redlands, CA) leads the attack through the air with 604 total passing yards. Junior wide receiver Khory Day (Fresno, CA) and sophomore running back Kai Thompson (Murrieta, CA) serve as his main targets, totaling eight receptions each. First-year running back Mason Carvalho (Menifee, CA) paces the running game with 237 yards on the ground while averaging 6.6 yards per carry.

Defensively, junior linebacker Matthew Betancourt (San Bernardino, CA) leads the Bulldogs with 25 total tackles.

The Bulldogs rank in the top three nationally for time of possession by averaging 37 minutes per game for a total of 112 minutes over three contests. In addition, senior kicker Alex Raya (Jamul, CA) lands among the top 10 in the country with 1.67 field goals per game.

Following a bye week, Redlands (3-0) strives to maintain this momentum as it opens Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) competition against Pomona-Pitzer Colleges on October 5 at 7 p.m. in Ted Runner Stadium.
