Seniors Joe Munroe and Nathan Hierlihy Earn SCIAC Weekly Honors for Redlands Football

For the third consecutive week, the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference's (SCIAC) weekly awards included at least one University of Redlands football player, bringing the Bulldogs' total to 10 such honors this season.  For October 22-29, senior defensive lineman Joe Munroe (Costa Mesa, CA) was named the Defensive Athlete of the Week, while senior kicker Nathan Hierlihy (Redondo Beach, CA) became the Football Specialist of the Week.

Munroe was impactful in every aspect of the Bulldogs' 51-23 Smudge-Pot victory over Cal Lutheran University on Homecoming. He was a handful on special teams with his second PAT block of the season, which limited the Kinsmen to only six points on their first scoring drive. With CLU knocking on the door on the 25-yard line late in the game, Munroe made a one-handed interception at the line and returned it 48 yards. He also registered two tackles, including one for a three-yard loss.

As a key member of Special Teams, Hierlihy hit his groove by scoring 15 points in the team's important win over Cal Lutheran.  He converted all six extra points and went a perfect 3-for-3 on field goals, including a long of 44 yards.  His 37- and 23-yarders came in the fourth quarter to seal the deal for the Maroon and Gray.
