The University of Redlands football team returns home to the familiar setting at Ted Runner Stadium for Saturday's kick-off against Pomona-Pitzer Colleges at 7:05 p.m. After back-to-back travel weeks to Oregon and then a bye, the Bulldogs are chomping at the bit to play in front of the "Rah Rah Redlands" crowd in the squads' first Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) game of the season.

"Rah Rah Redlands" kicks off the festive day with open swim at the Thompson Aquatic Center from 3 to 5 p.m., followed by a variety of food trucks, a kids' zone, music from KDAWG, and more, beginning at 4 p.m. Ticket sales for "Rah Rah Redlands" begin at 2:45 p.m. at the Frank Serrao Gateway. General admission is $10. U of R students with ID and children under age 4 are free. Cost is $5 for Bulldog football season pass-holders and Bulldog football parents listed on the complimentary ticket list with ID, as well as children ages 4-12 years old.

THE REDLANDS BULLDOGS

Hungry for More: Redlands looks to recapture the coveted SCIAC championship, beginning with tonight's home and conference opener against Pomona-Pitzer. The Bulldogs have started 0-2 during the last four seasons, including when they won their most recent SCIAC title for the 29th crown in the program's illustrious history.

Top Dawgs: Preseason All-American quarterback Kevin Russell has taken the majority of snaps for the Bulldogs, tallying a 55.9 completion percentage so far. His top target has been Cole Blackburn, who has hauled in seven receptions, while newcomer Christian Guzman boasts 74 yards receiving on five catches. Devin Appleton and Curtis Tanquary continue to solidify the offense by picking up where they left off in 2014 as the primary ball-carriers for the Bulldogs. Defensively, Connor Hoffman leads the crew with 17 total tackles, with Davis Peralta closely following with 15 hits.

At the Helm: Now in his 28th year of guiding the Bulldog football program, Mike Maynard consistently establishes himself as one of the top, small-college coaches in the West Region, if not the entire nation. Maynard's teams have posted an overall winning percentage of .687 (as of 2014), which includes an impressive .796 mark in SCIAC play while winning 11 conference championships. Maynard continues to build on the pride and tradition of Bulldog football, including seven NCAA play-off appearances. During his tenure, he has coached multiple All-Americans, All-SCIAC honorees, and academic stand-outs.

THE POMONA-PITZER SAGEHENS

Pride of Pomona-Pitzer: The Sagehens held on for a 20-14 win over Lewis & Clark College (OR) on Saturday, September 19, with Eric Montgomery providing a big hit on fourth down with five seconds left to halt the Pioneers' final drive of the game. Kevin Masini provided two field goals and a receiving touchdown to account for 13 of his team's points, while Josh Bocker added a 30-yard rushing score to open the scoring. Luke Lowell has been under center for the majority of the Sagehens' two games, but Stephen Smith took over in the second quarter against Lewis & Clark due to an injury. The SCIAC Newcomer of the Year in 2014, Aseal Birir carried the ball 20 times for 97 yards. Defensively, Zach Harris paces the team with 13 total tackles on the season.

At the Helm: Roger Caron enters his 20th year as the head coach at Pomona-Pitzer. In recent seasons, he has coached several program record-breakers on the offensive side of the ball, including his son Jake, who set career marks for passing (8,408 yards) and total offense (9,224 yards from 2007 to 2010. R.J. Maki also set receiving records (256 catches for 3070 yards) from 2007 to 2010, while Luke Sweeney set the rushing record (3,004 yards) from 2009-2012. Jake Caron and Maki now serve on his coaching staff.

The University of Redlands football team found its stride by opening conference competition with a resounding 47-7 victory over the Pomona-Pitzer Colleges Sagehens in Claremont. While amassing nearly twice as many offensive yards as the host team, the Bulldogs jumped out to a 19-0 advantage before cruising to the win with a total-team effort. The Bulldog defense impressed by making three interceptions, including a pick-six play.

SERIES HISTORY:

Redlands holds the series advantage over the Pomona-Pitzer Sagehens with a 65-32-5 record that dates back to 1910. in addition, the Bulldogs have registered 10-straight wins against this familiar SCIAC foe. Redlands has out-scored the Sagehens by a 166-7 margin over the last three games.
