Four U of R Baseball players named CSC Academic All-Region

REDLANDS, Calif. - The College Sports Communicators (CSC) announced their 2023 Academic All-District Team for Baseball this week with the University of Redlands having four players recognized for the first time in their careers, all sophomores Luke De Vries (Irvine, CA), Sebastian Mejorado (Oceanside, CA), Gabriel Ceja (Long Beach, CA), and Cade McClelland (Mission Viejo, CA)

The 2023 Academic All-District Baseball Team, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom. With their selections, these four Bulldogs move onto the CSC Academic All-America ballot, and the Academic All-American teams will be announced at the end of May.

This season, McCelland, Mejorado, De Vries, and Ceja all played a major role in helping the Bulldogs post an 18-20, 10-14 SCIAC record.

McClelland is majoring in Engineering and boasts a 3.63 GPA with the plan to become a Software Engineer upon graduation.  This season he played in 27 games with 24 hits, which included three doubles, two triples and two homeruns.  He also added 13 runs scored, 22 RBI's, a .308 average, a .385 OBP and a .474 slugging percentage. 

Mejorado is majoring in Business Administration, has a 3.66 GPA and plans to become a baseball coach upon graduation.  This season he found himself playing in 28 games with 20 hits, which included six doubles and two homeruns.  He posted 14 RBI's and 11 runs scored, had a .263 average, with a .378 OBP and a slugging percentage of .421. 

De Vries was a mainstay in center field and at the leadoff spot for the Maroon and Grey this season.  Majoring in Economics and holding a GPA of a 3.72, he plans to obtain his MBA after graduation.  This season he played in 37 games with 44 hits, which included five doubles and a triple.  He also scored 22 times, drove in 17 with five stolen bases, 16 walks, a .328 average, a .421 OBP and a .381 slugging percentage.  

Ceja was the last Bulldog recognized on the All-District team posting a 3.53 GPA.  He is majoring in Business Administration and plans to go into Real Estate upon graduation.  This season he played in 23 games with 24 hits, which included three doubles, a triple and a homerun.  He also added 15 runs scored, 12 RBI's, a .358 average, a .482 OBP and a slugging percentage of .478.
