COSTA MESA, Calif. – The University of Redlands Baseball team (11-14, 3-8) lost their last regular season non-conference game of the season 16-5 at Vanguard University Tuesday afternoon. The Bulldogs collected 15 hits but allowed 13 hits, walked 14 batters, and committed two errors.

The Bulldogs trailed 1-0 after the first inning, but they came back to take the lead in the top half of the second as Jake Burgess (Riverside, CA) and Gabriel Ceja (Long Beach, CA) combined for a pair of base hits that brought in runs.

The lead was lost in the next half inning as the Lions tied the game at two following a bases loaded walk. Vanguard would then go in front, 6-2, in the fourth thanks to a wild pitch and a pair of doubles.

Will Daniels (Crestline, CA) got the Bulldogs back on track in the fifth inning with a two-out, two-run double into left field plating both Max Clark (Fontana, CA) and Nathan Buchan (Mercer Island, WA).

The Lions would put the game away in the fifth and sixth innings, scoring five times in each frame.

The fifth and final Bulldog run came courtesy of Clark who got an RBI on a sacrifice foul out as Jared Anderson (Gilbert, AZ) was able to tag up from third after doubling earlier in the inning.

Despite only scoring five runs, the offense outhit the Lions with Luke De Vries (Irvine, CA), Clark, Daniels, Burgess, and Will Cell (Seattle, WA) all collecting multiple hits and Daniels and Cell posting three-hit games.

The two lone bright spots on the mound came from UR's final two pitchers, Luke Hanson (Escondido, CA) and Omar Barraza (San Mateo, CA), who combined to throw 2.1 scoreless innings following 14 runs allowed in the previous 2.2 innings.

Redlands returns to their Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) schedule this weekend, April 7-8 when they take on Whittier College in a three-game series.  The Bulldogs host the Poets for a single game on Friday at 3:00pm and will then travel to Whittier for a doubleheader on Saturday.
