Redlands baseball welcomed the University of Texas at Dallas Comets to the Yard for a non-conference game on Friday, February 14, and Saturday, February 15. The conclusion of Friday's game was postponed due to darkness and resumed on Saturday morning. The teams finished game one and played game two approximately 30 minutes later. Although game one was tied at the end of Friday, the Comets found their rhythm on Saturday, handing the Bulldogs a pair of 9-12 and 3-6 losses.

Redlands struck first in game one on a single, a walk, and a Comet error to go up 1-0 after one. However, UT-Dallas put up four runs in the top of the second, forcing the Bulldogs to work from behind.

The Maroon and Gray chipped away at the deficit, adding one more in the bottom of the third to cut the difference in half, 2-4.

Now in the bottom of the fourth, with a runner on and one out, first-year second baseman Jonah Advincula (Santa Clara, CA) stepped up to the plate and hit an RBI double to center. After an out and two walks that loaded the bases sophomore left fielder Alex Olague (Renton, WA) came in with a bases-clearing two-bagger to right-center for a 6-4 advantage after four.

The Bulldogs didn't stop there with three runs on four hits in the following inning. Sophomore catcher Sammy Diaz (Palm Desert, CA) led off the inning with a base knock to left. After two outs, Advincula stepped again with a single. Senior third baseman Anthony Acosta (Simi Valley, CA) plated them on an infield single before sophomore designated hitter Chris Hardin (Highland, CA) dinged an RBI double to the 7-8 hole for a 9-4 lead.

Unfortunately, the Comets clawed their way back and ultimately tied the game in the top of the seventh, 9-9. The game was called due to darkness and resumed on Saturday morning. In the top of the ninth, UT-Dallas put up three runs on three hits to hand the Bulldogs a tough, 9-12 loss.

Thirty minutes later, the teams jumped back into action for game two. Although the Comets scored in the top of the first, the Bulldogs matched the run in the bottom of that inning.

With sophomore second baseman Esteban Nakashima (Riverside, CA) on third, Acosta singled through the left side to plate Nakashima and tie the game 1-1.

However, UT-Dallas managed to put up five runs over the next four innings to put the Bulldogs in a 1-6 hole.

The Maroon and Gray attempted the comeback in the sixth on two singles from junior right fielder Cal Bridges (Fremont, CA) and sophomore first baseman Mark Kirkland (Redlands, CA) that scored a run and then once again in the eighth inning, where Kirkland smoked a triple and then touched home plate. Unfortunately, the runs stopped there, ending in a 3-6 loss.

The Bulldogs (2-4) meet the Comets once more on Sunday, February 16, for a 10 a.m. non-conference game at The Yard.
