The University of Redlands baseball team returned to the diamond at the Yard on Monday, facing the University of British Columbia (CAN) in an exhibition game.  After giving up two runs in the second inning, the Bulldogs settled down to hold the Thunderbirds scoreless over six of the next seven frames.  However, Redlands struggled to create offensive opportunities of its own, recording only five hits while leaving five on base en route to the 0-3 loss to the NAIA powerhouse.

With the game scoreless, the Thunderbirds strung together a double, a triple, and a sacrifice fly to push two runners across in the top of the second stanza.

From here, Bulldog senior pitcher Josh Makler (Portland, OR) performed admirably on the mound by giving up only one more run.  He left the game after six solid innings that included eight strikeouts.

The Maroon and Gray garnered a quality scoring opportunity in the bottom of the fourth, when junior right-fielder Tyler Shreve (Redlands, CA) singled through the right side to move senior shortstop Jordan Dresner (Etiwanda, CA) over to second after he was walked to lead off the inning.  However, the UBC pitcher came up with a timely strikeout to thwart the Maroon and Gray's two-out rally.

Junior pitcher Kevin Stevens (Highland, CA), freshman hurler Rainier Aguilar (San Bernardino, CA), and Shreve combined efforts on the mound to close out the final three innings in scoreless fashion. Shreve registered the only strikeout of the trio, which came in the top of the ninth with the bases loaded.

Junior first baseman Ryan Franklin (Manhattan Beach, CA) provided the only multi-hit showing for the Bulldogs, going 2-for-2 on the day.  Freshman shortstop Will Hall (Seattle, WA) and freshman third baseman Ian Chavez (Carlsbad, CA) each made the most of his one at-bat by connecting for a hit.

Redlands (5-1, 2-1 SCIAC) welcomes the Pomona-Pitzer Colleges Sagehens to the Yard on Friday, February 20, for a 2:30 p.m. Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) showdown.
