The University of Redlands baseball team's bats were firing on all cylinders on Friday afternoon, blowing past the Stags of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges on the road, 10-1.  As a team, the Bulldogs racked up 17 hits in the nine-run Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) triumph.

The Maroon and Gray jumped on top in the second inning when junior left-fielder Christian Gurrola (Torrance, CA) ripped an RBI double down the right-field line, scoring sophomore third baseman Mark Tumlinson (Anaheim, CA) on the play.

Redlands tacked on one more in the third, and then two more in the fifth to make it 4-0.

The Stags pulled one back in the bottom half of the fifth frame, but Redlands extended its advantage to 6-1 in the seventh inning with a pair of runs.  The Bulldogs then blew the contest open in the eighth with four more runs, securing the conference victory.  In that big eighth inning, senior center-fielder Alex Scheiwe (Encinitas, CA), junior catcher Sean McMillan (Redwood City, CA), and senior designated hitter Max Hardman (Encinitas, CA) each registered an RBI.

Bulldog freshman pitcher Hayden Haight (Redlands, CA) was dealing on the mound for the U of R, dispersing six hits while allowing just one run through six innings.  In addition, Haight struck out a career-best eight batters in the win.

At the plate, McMillan went 3-for-4 with one RBI and three runs scored, while Scheiwe and Gurrola also racked up three hits apiece.  Additionally, Hardman tallied one hit and team-best three RBI in the triumph.

Redlands (12-20, 11-11 SCIAC) returns to the diamond tomorrow when it hosts CMS for the conclusion of the three-game series.  First pitch of the doubleheader at The Yard is set for 11 a.m.
