No.18 Redlands Baseball Coasts by Caltech in Final SCIAC Bout

The No. 18 University of Redlands baseball team wrapped up its Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) regular season on Saturday by taking down the Beavers of Caltech in seven innings, 13-2. The Bulldogs scored seven runs over the first two innings en route to their 28th victory of the season and their eighth in the last nine games.

Redlands swung the sticks with ease and recorded 18 hits on the day with 10 different batters collecting a base knock.

Led by junior third baseman Ben Saunders (New River, AZ), five Bulldogs also posted multi-hit performances. Saunders matched his career-high of four hits in a single game, smacking two extra-base hits and driving in three RBI for the Maroon and Gray.

Sophomore centerfielder Ryan Buscemi (Tiburon, CA) also enjoyed a solid day by sending out his second dinger of the season. In addition, he produced three RBI and two runs in the contest.

The Bulldogs remained aggressive on the base-paths by swiping four steals with junior designated hitter Trenton Lively (La Verne, CA) taking two of them.

Redlands used eight pitchers in the match-up with junior lefty Adam Byrd (Yuma, AZ) posting a trio of strikeouts in the first inning to earn his fourth victory of the year.

With the SCIAC season now complete, Redlands looks forward to a three-game series against No.15 Chapman University. The Bulldogs travel to Orange County for the first game at 3 p.m. on Friday, which is followed by an 11 a.m. doubleheader on Saturday at the Yard.
