Among the many victories, awards, milestones, and championships, the University of Redlands and Bulldog Athletics completed the 2014-15 academic year by taking second in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference’s (SCIAC) race for the coveted All-Sports Trophy and finishing 56th out of nearly 450 NCAA Division III institutions in the 2015 National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup.

The SCIAC All-Sports Trophy tallies points for each participating team’s finish in the conference standings.  Redlands collected the maximum number of points with SCIAC championships in men’s soccer, men’s golf, and women’s golf.  This marked the 12th regular-season title for men’s soccer and the sixth under the direction of Head Coach Ralph Perez, while men’s golf brought home the program’s 25th overall championship and first under Head Coach Butch Edge.  Redlands women’s golf captured the program’s first-ever SCIAC championship, which came in the fourth year of competing as a conference, with Art Salvesen at the helm in his final season.

Beyond this trio of titles, the Maroon and Gray had 13 additional programs finish among the top four in the conference, accounting for 16 of the Bulldogs’ 21 sports.

Based on the postseason success of its programs, Bulldog Athletics garnered 312.35 points to finish in 56th in the NACDA Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup standings.  Points are awarded based on advancement to each round of the NCAA Championships, including a maximum of 18 sports with nine for men and nine for women.  Redlands gained the most points from men’s golf, which took fifth overall for 75 points.  In addition, women’s golf tallied 66 points for its eighth-place showing in the team’s inaugural national appearance, while eight members of the Bulldog men’s track & field team combined efforts for a 15th-place performance at outdoor nationals that raked in 57.75 points.  Furthermore, Redlands women’s soccer contributed 50 points (17th), senior swimmer Jeff Depew (Naperville, IL) solely contributed 53 points by finishing 21st, and senior high-jumper Maddie Smith (Hoquiam, WA) provided 10.6 points by finishing eighth in her event for a 58th-place finish overall at indoor nationals.

The Maroon and Gray fared well against its rivals in the SCIAC, ranking third among the familiar foes.  Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges led the race with 727.50 points to take 11th place, while Pomona-Pitzer Colleges tallied 339 points for 49th overall.  Redlands sits well in front of the University of La Verne (102nd-188.50 points), Occidental College (114th-172 points), Cal Lutheran University (183rd-109.25 points), Whittier College (186th-107 points), and Chapman University (280th-25 points).
