
The University of Redlands placed 42nd out of 429 NCAA Division
III institutions in the 2009 National Association of
Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) Learfield Sports
Directors’ Cup, according to an announcement made today by
the NACDA.
This honor is presented annually by the NACDA and USA
Today to the nation’s best overall collegiate athletics
programs across all divisions of the NCAA as well as the NAIA.
Based on the postseason success of its athletics programs, Redlands
garnered 337.5 points to finish 42nd in the standings.
The Maroon and Gray fared well against its rivals in the West and
ranked second among Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic
Conference (SCIAC) institutions. Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges
accrued 387.50 points and placed just ahead of the Bulldogs (34th).
Other West Coast schools that cracked the NACDA Learfield Sports
Directors’ Cup Trophy standings include Whitworth University
(WA) (40th), the University of Puget Sound (WA) (45th), Linfield
College (OR) (48th), UC Santa Cruz (89th), the University of La
Verne (90th), George Fox University (OR) (93rd), Chapman University
(107th), Pomona-Pitzer Colleges (108th), Willamette University (OR)
(120th), Cal Lutheran University (136th), Cal State East Bay
(240th), Occidental College (258th), Whitman College (WA) (264th)
and Pacific Lutheran University (WA) (267th).
Redlands has ended up among the top 50 every year since the 2001-02
season. The Bulldogs’ best finish came in 2004-05, when they
earned 458.5 points for 16th place.
