Bulldog Women's Teams Win Fourth Consecutive All-Sports Trophy

It was officially announced at the 2010 Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Awards Banquet last month that the University of Redlands captured the SCIAC Women's All-Sports Trophy for the fourth time in a row. During the 2009-10 campaign, the Bulldog women's teams garnered four conference titles while also taking second in four other sports.

Redlands enjoyed another successful year in SCIAC competition as the women compiled an impressive 61 points to outscore second-place Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges by 5.5 points. The women's volleyball and track & field programs gained sole possession of the SCIAC Championship for their respective sports while the women's basketball and softball teams finished as SCIAC Co-Champions with Occidental College and CMS, respectively. Additionally, the Bulldog women's soccer, swimming & diving, lacrosse, and tennis programs all came in second in the conference.

This marks the fifth time that Redlands has finished atop the women's all-sports standings since the trophy's inception during the 1976-77 academic year.

The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's teams amassed 61 points, which earned them the Men's All-Sports Trophy. The Bulldogs finished second with 53.5 points.

Redlands fell short of capturing the Combined All-Sports Trophy by a mere two points with CMS prevailing over the Maroon and Gray, 116.5 to 114.5.

The SCIAC All-Sports Trophy is determined by the points earned for each sport's finish among the conference schools. The SCIAC champion receives eight points, with second place earning six points, third receiving five points, etc., to eighth place, which earns no points. Any school that does not sponsor a conference sport loses one point for that sport. With the addition of women's lacrosse during the 2010 spring season, the conference now sponsors 20 sports.
