Bulldog Basketball Invites Community to Family Fun Night on Saturday, January 25

The University of Redlands invites the community to the third annual "Family Fun Night" at Bulldog basketball on Saturday, January 25, in order to experience a fun atmosphere for college hoops. The Bulldog basketball teams will host rival Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges in an important Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) doubleheader in Currier Gym. The men tip off at 5 p.m., followed by the women's game at approximately 7 p.m.

Any adult accompanied by a child age 18 and under will receive free admission into both games. All children are automatically admitted free of charge.

In addition, halftime of both games will feature an informal shoot-around for kids ages 14 and younger, with smaller hoops available for the youngest children. The first 50 children in attendance at each game will receive a voucher for a free kid's meal at Corner Baker Cafe in Redlands.

"Family Fun Night" replaces the NCAA's Take a Kid to the Game® program, which was suspended in 2011-12.

"We are happy to continue the fun and excitement of Take a Kid to the Game Night® with our own 'Family Fun Night' in Currier Gym," said Director of Athletics Jeff Martinez. "This is a great way for the community to experience NCAA Division III basketball at its best."

The Redlands men recently captured a critical win over the University of La Verne, helping to break a four-way tie for third in the conference standings.  Now the Bulldogs are tied for third with Cal Lutheran University at 3-2 and look forward to matching up with the Kingsmen on Jan. 18. Senior forward Alex Rudd (St. Louis, MO) leads the offense with 14.2 points per game, while senior guard Ricky Peetz (Redlands, CA), sophomore forward Aljosa Bjekovic (Maribor, Slovenia), and senior forward Eric Radford (Federal Way, WA) all offer scoring averages of 10 or more points.

With a 5-1 conference record, the Bulldog women currently sit atop the SCIAC standings. Senior forward Brittany Oster (Agoura Hills, CA) leads the team with 16.1 points per game and 10.1 rebounds per game.  Senior guard Colleen Goeser (San Carlos, CA) also boasts a double-digit scoring average at 11.3 points.  Redlands is 12-3 overall thus far.
