Lance Franey joined the Bulldog staff as the Sports Information Director in August 2021.  With 14 years of athletics experience at Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) foe, Whittier College, Franey brings his knowledge, enthusiasm, and familiarity to the Bulldog staff in a relatively seamless and quick transition.

"I am so excited and humbled to join the University of Redlands as the new Sports Information Director.  This is an opportunity for me to use my experience and knowledge within communications to promote this great institution that has such a rich tradition of winning, coupled with a great culture and one-of-a-kind collegiate experience for the student-athletes," Franey commented.  "I also want to thank Jeff Martinez, Rachel Roche, and the search committee for the work they have done during this process.  I am really looking forward to being a part of the Bulldog family."

A Whittier College alum, Franey possesses a strong commitment to the NCAA Division III experience, which began as a tennis student-athlete and grew throughout this tenure with the Poets.  Most recently, he served as the Associate Director of Athletics / Director of Athletic Communications, Marketing, and Licensing.  In that role, he facilitated the daily internal operations of the athletics department, oversaw numerous student employees, and coordinated game management for home contests, among other duties.

Aside from the traditional Sports Information responsibilities of website maintenance, award nominations, statistical compilation, and photography, Franey looks forward to taking what he learned from developing the Whittier College Sports Network and applying it to Redlands.  While creating and leading the student-run broadcasting group, he elevated the online viewing experience to include audio commentators and multiple camera angles.

Furthermore, Franey offers knowledge of securing sponsorships, marketing, fundraising, and apparel and brand licensing.

His familiarity with PrestoSports, which is Redlands' current website, live stats, and streaming provider, allowed him to jump right in.

He is a member of College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).  He has served on the CoSIDA Convention Programming Committee since 2014, the CoSIDA Writing Contest Committee since 2013 and just recently joined the NCAA Division III Technology Users Group Committee.

Currently, Franey lives in Corona with his wife, Heather, a former softball player from Quinnipiac University.
