Redlands Cross Country Steps up with Quality Marks at SCIAC Championships

The University of Redlands cross country teams took on familiar competition at the 2016 Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Championships at Prado Park early Saturday morning.  With a pair of First-Team All-Conference runners leading the charge, the Bulldog women finished fourth overall with an average time of 25:21.  As a team, the Redlands men took fifth behind the SCIAC's quartet of nationally ranked foes by averaging 27:49 on the 8k course.

Freshman Maria Ramirez (Orange, CA) paced the Maroon and Gray in the women's 6k race by crossing the finish line in ninth place with a time of 24:06.8.  Senior Jessika Snincsak (Rancho Cucamonga, CA) quickly followed with her 10th-place mark of 24:16.0 to complete her four-year SCIAC experience on a positive note.  By finishing among the top 10 at the SCIAC Championships, they each earned the distinction of making the All-Conference First Team.

Junior Kaylee Jorgensen (Claremont, CA) completed the race as the third Bulldog with a time of 25:53.4 to take 29th.

Sophomore Ellie Ramsey (Waterbury, VT) and freshman Carly Veasy (Camas, WA) completed the Maroon and Gray's top five, with respective times of 26:09.8 and 26:27.7.  The youthful duo finished among the top 34 scorers at Saturday's race.

Sophomore Benjamin Casey (Highland Park, IL) led the Bulldog men with his time of 27:07.3 for 23rd place, as senior Abhinav Nagpal (Cypress, CA) crossed the finish line shortly after in 27:18.2 for 25th in the final conference competition of his four-year Redlands career.

Junior Sean Unger (Carlsbad, CA) also ran a sub-28-minute time for the Bulldogs, completing the race in 27:35.3 for 28th place overall.  Senior Erik Chazin (Hollis, NH) held off a late push by another runner by turning on the gas in the final few meters to record a time of 28:19.5.  Junior John Nichols (Arroyo Grande, CA) recorded an 8k-time of 28:47.0 as the fifth Bulldog at the meet.

Redlands now looks forward to competing in the NCAA West Regional Championships in Salem, Oregon, on Saturday, November 12.
