Redlands Women’s Golf makes history at NCAA National Championships | Finish as Runner-Ups

HOUSTON, TX – The University of Redlands Women's Golf team made history Friday afternoon at the NCAA Division III National Championships finishing as Runner-Ups with a four-day total of 1201 (304-306-293-298) as they took on Bay Oaks Country Club in Houston, TX.

This marks the highest finish in program history for the Bulldogs at the NCAA Division III National Championships.  Redlands has competed at nationals five times with the highest finish being 4th, which came last year in 2021.  Under Head Coach Jack Stewart Redlands has competed at the national stage four times (2022-2nd, 2021-4th, 2019-10th, 2016-6th).

The Maroon and Grey came into the final round trailing Emory by 27 shots and despite shooting a 298 across the final 18 holes, was unable to catch-up before taking 2nd overall.  It was an exciting finish with six teams all in the hunt, but Redlands was able to hold off the field as George Fox University (No. 3 – 1203), Carnegie Mellon (4th – 1206), Methodist University (4th - 1206), Williams College (6th – 1209), and Pomona-Pitzer (7th – 1211) would follow closely.

Redlands trailed George Fox University by a stroke with six holes left to play, but was able to storm back out in front by two, grabbing a lead they would not give up as they would shoot +10 as a team to bring their total to +49 for the four-days.  They led the trio of Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) teams who qualified for the Nationals Championships.  All three teams made it within the Top 10, including Pomona-Pitzer (No. 7) and Claremont-M-S (No. 9).

Over the four days the Bulldogs were No. 2 in Par 3 Scoring (3.15 | +12), No. 6 in Par 4 Scoring (4.34 | +67), No. 3 in Par 5 Scoring (5.05 | +4), totaled 222 Pars and 40 Birdies.

Iris Liu (Diamond Bar, CA) led the Bulldogs individually posting her fourth consecutive round in the 70's finishing the championships with a 75-72-71-75 (+5).  She totaled a 293 and finished +3 over across the final 18 holes, which dropped her five spots into a tie for 7th

Hannah Jugar (Chula Vista, CA) was only a shot off in a tie for 11th.  She combined for a 294 and shot Even on the final round to go 74-77-71-72 (+6).  She was -1 thru 11 holes today and after a Bogey on the 12th Hole would Par out the rest of the way.

Kendall Nicholson (Bellevue, WA) who remained in 28th over the first three days made a move up in the standings, jumping seven spots into a tie for 21st.  She too posted four rounds in the 70's, capped off with an even par 72 on the final 18, which included three birdies, two of which came on two of the first three holes on the back-nine.  She went 76-77-75-72 (+12).

Senior Malia Kiger (Hermosa Beach, CA) put together back-to-back rounds in the 70's as she competed in her final NCAA Division III National Championship.  She improved one spot into a tie for 52nd after shooting a 79 today.  Over the four days she went 80-80-76-79 (+27).

Andrea York (Oakdale, CA) was the last Bulldog to score shooting an 83, dropping her seven spots into a tie for 67th.  She did shoot a pair of 70's over the four days finishing with a 79-81-78-83 (+33).
