REDLANDS, Calif. – The University of Redlands Women's Water Polo team (1-13, 0-2) put together another elite defensive performance Saturday morning as they held Claremont-Mudd-Scripps to only six goals, but they were only able to put two in the back of the net as they lost at the Thompson Aquatic Center (TAC), 6-2.

The Bulldogs' defense did its job in the opening half, allowing only three goals, but they trailed 3-0 until Sofia Portello (Sonoma, CA) scored off a Courtney Sawin (Tacoma, WA) assist with only :13 seconds remaining as they took advantage of a powerplay opportunity.

After the Athenas extended their lead back to three, 4-1, at the 4:03 mark, Emma Parker (Yucaipa, CA) quickly responded a minute later with a goal to get the Bulldogs back within two, 4-2. That would be their final goal of the game though as they would drop their Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) home opener.

The Bulldogs finished with 11 steals, with Tori Zielinski (Sunnyvale, CA), Portello, and Danielle Cary (Riverside, CA) all posting two each. Another notable defensive performance from a field player came from Sawin who had a steal and six drawn exclusions. In goal Zielinski did her best to keep the Maroon and Grey alive with 14 saves and a .700 save percentage.

Redlands will head to the University of La Verne this Wednesday, March 15 beginning at 4:00 p.m.
