CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The University of Redlands Women's Water Polo team traveled back east for the Harvard Invitational where they took on four Division I programs in Gannon University, Harvard University, Brown University, and Wagner College.

The Bulldogs dropped all four contests, despite gaining quality experience as they move to 1-11.

Game 1 (Gannon University; L, 7-6)

It was a tight game with Gannon University to start off the invite where the Bulldogs held the Golden Knights to single digits.  Redlands was outscored 4-1 in the first half with the lone connection coming from Breanna Bailey (Rancho Cucamonga, CA) who started the scoring off early in the first quarter.  Courtney Sawin (Tacoma, WA) and Bailey went back-to-back to start off the third quarter pulling UR within one, but Gannon would score the next two to hold a three-goal advantage heading into the final period.

A combined four goals were scored across the final eight minutes with Redlands outscoring the Golden Knights 3-1.  Emma Parker (Yucaipa, CA) scored the first of the period and then followed Sawin late with her second.   That made it a one-goal game but it came with :20 seconds remaining as Gannon held on for the win.

Game 2 (Harvard; L, 16-2)

The Bulldogs took on the host in the second game on the day, managing just two goals, which came in the first quarter and the third from Katrina Nielsen (Houston, TX) and Parker.  Harvard jumped out in front 5-1 after the opening eight minutes then extended their lead to 8-1 at the break.  UR grabbed their second goal early in the third quarter, but the Crimson moved the advantage to 11-2.  Across the final eight minutes Harvard would tally another five goals as they went on to win.

Game 3 (Brown; L, 10-6)

Redlands traveled to Brown for their other two games on the trip.  They started play against the Bears with Nielsen getting the scoring started in the first quarter with an unassisted strike inside 2-meters.  Anika Lundbaek (San Anselmo, CA) added the second for UR as the deficit moved to five at the break, 7-2.

Danielle Cary (Riverside, CA) and Sofia Portello (Sonoma, CA) found the back of the goal in the third quarter helping the Maroon and Grey outscore the Bears 2-1 in the period cutting the lead in half, 8-4.  In the fourth both teams scored twice, which made the final a four-goal deficit.  Hannah Long (Rancho Cucamonga, CA) and Parker would both connect, but it would be too late as Redlands would drop their third game on the trip.

Game 4 (Wagner; L, 20-4)

It was a slow start for the Bulldogs in the final game of the tournament falling behind 12-1 at the half against Wagner.  The lone goal scored by Cary, which came in the opening period with 1:07 remaining.  UR put up two goals in the third quarter from Kaitlynn Pierceall (Beaumont, CA) and Long, but Wagner would stretch their lead to 16-2.

Then across the final eight minutes UR was outscored 4-1 with their final tally coming from Long as the Bulldogs fell 20-4.

Redlands returns to the pool Wednesday, March 8 beginning Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) play with a road game against California Lutheran University beginning at 4:00pm.
