The Bulldog women's water polo team completed day two of the Gary Troyer Tournament on Saturday. The team fell to Division II Sonoma State 3-10 before suffering a 9-10 overtime heartbreaker to Division I St. Francis University (PA).

Although the Seawolves got up 2-0 in the opening four minutes, sophomore attacker Ally Feeley (Menlo Park, CA) found sophomore attacker Holly Kvanvig (Beaverton, OR) to cut the deficit in half with a score at 3:29.

The teams traded scores, this time Kvanvig finding junior defender Sarah Draves (Fallbrook, CA) for a goal and 2-4 score heading into the second period.

But Sonoma State held the Bulldogs to only one goal throughout the rest of the game, ultimately falling 3-10.

In game two, after SFU opened the scoring, junior attacker Katelynn Holloman (Wildomar, CA) drew an exclusion before Draves put one through the posts to equalize the score 1-1 on a powerplay goal at 4:42. Senior attacker Hunter Olivier (Indio, CA) gave Redlands the lead at 1:20 for a 2-1 score after the first quarter.

The Maroon and Gray offense continued to fire on all cylinders, outscoring the Red Flash, 3-2. Kvanvig sparked the scoring with a goal only 40 seconds into the period and then again at 5:21 for a 4-1 advantage.

SFU attempted the comeback but were stopped short as first-year attacker Katrina Nielsen (Houston, TX) banged one home for a 5-3 lead at halftime. Olivier and Nielsen closed the period with two steals to keep the Red Flash scoreless in the final two minutes.

Although Kvanvig scored another in the third, SFU knotted the tally at 6-6 after three full quarters.

The Red Flash struck first, but Draves swiped a quick steal that turned into points with a goal from first-year attacker Alyssa Baratelle (Lake Elsinore, CA) to make it 7-7 at 7:34. Each team scored one more goal, with Holloman netting the score for Redlands, to end regulation with an 8-8 tie.

In the first overtime period, first-year goalkeeper Tori Zielinski (Sunnyvale, CA) made a huge stop while Olivier and Kvanvig attempted shots on target but one was saved and one hit the host to go to a second overtime period.

Nielsen gave it her all on defense with two steals in the opening minute and a half. With 1:27 left in the second OT, Olivier found Holloman who converted the goal to go up 9-8. But the Red Flash scored the equalizer 20 seconds later. Zielinski preserved the tie with two, last-second saves to head to sudden death.

Unfortunately, SFU scored in sudden death while holding the Bulldogs scoreless, handing Redlands a tough, 9-10 loss.

The Bulldogs (3-9, 1-2 SCIAC) return to the Thompson Aquatic Center on Wednesday, March 11, for a conference game against Occidental College at 7 p.m.
