Redlands Women's Water Polo Garners Pair of All-SCIAC Awards

Kolby Kahahawai and Katelyn Jenkins earned All-SCIAC awards.

It was announced on Thursday morning that two University of Redlands student-athletes landed on the All-Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Women's Water Polo Teams.  Junior center Kolby Kahahawai (Kailua, HI) represented the Bulldogs on the All-Conference Second Team, while junior attacker Katelyn Jenkins (Bellevue, WA) received a spot on the SCIAC All-Sportsmanship Team.

While constantly under defensive pressure, Kahahawai led the team with 17 goals coming in 14 conference games.  She added 10 steals, three field blocks, and one assist in a well-rounded effort. She also drew seven exclusions with persistence and poise in the center position.  Overall, she notched 32 goals and three assists while recording 13 steals, six field blocks, and 16 drawn exclusions in 29 games played.

Kahahawai reels in her second-consecutive All-SCIAC award with this year's nod.

After making the smooth transition from goalkeeper to field player, Jenkins becomes the Bulldogs' selection to the SCIAC All-Sportsmanship Team.  Statistically, she stepped up with 15 goals and five assists to go along with five steals in 14 conference games.  She also won five of her seven sprints for Redlands' possession to start the quarter in conference action.  In 27 games played on the season, Jenkins scored 29 goals and provided nine assists.  She added 12 steals, eight drawn exclusions, and three field blocks.

"Katelyn demonstrated great resolve in learning new aspects of the game, staying positive through the steep learning curve, and motivated others by leading by example," Head Coach Chris Gielen commented.  "She is a pleasure to have in our program and models the work ethic and competitive behavior that our program tries to instill in all of our student-athletes."
