2023 Women's Volleyball Schedule
REDLANDS, Calif. – First-Year Head Coach Savannah Cox for the University of Redlands Volleyball team announced her 2023 schedule Tuesday with the Bulldogs kicking off their 2023 season at home with a non-conference matchup with Providence Christian before traveling to Massachusetts for three games.
This fall the Bulldogs will play 22 games with 10 occurring at home inside Currier Gym, another 10 happening on the road, and two taking place at neutral sites. They will have six non-conference match-ups with two at home, two on the road, and two at neutral sites, and 16 Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) games.
The season and home opener is Saturday, September 2 at 2:00 p.m. inside Currier Gym as the Bulldogs host Providence Christian. Providence Christian finished 2022 5-20 overall. The all-time series is tied at 1-1. The Bulldogs and Sea Beggars last played in 2021 when the Sea Beggars got a 3-1 win inside Currier. The first meeting was also in Redlands and the Bulldogs swept the visitors 3-0.
The following week Redlands will fly to the east coast as they play three games hosted by Smith College in Northampton, Mass. On Friday, Sept. 8 they take on Westfield State University at 2:00 p.m. Pacific Standard Time. The Owls were 13-12 last season and advanced to the NCAA Division III National Championships after winning the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Tournament. As of the 2006 season the two programs have not played each other.
Game two of the road trip will occur at Smith College against Lasell University on Saturday, Sept. 9 at 10:00 a.m. P.S.T. The Lasers were 19-14 overall in 2022 and made it to the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Tournament Semifinals. As of 2006 there have been no meetings. To end the trip Redlands will play the Smith College Pioneers at noon P.S.T. on that Saturday, Sept. 9. The Pioneers were 21-11 a year ago and made it to the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Tournament Semifinals where they lost to No. 20 Massachusetts Institute of Technology. The Bulldogs and Pioneers have never faced each other.
Redlands returns home for their last non-conference game before the start of the SCIAC season as they host West Coast Baptist on Friday, Sept. 15 at 7:00 p.m. The Bulldogs swept the Eagles 3-0 last season.
To open SCIAC play the Bulldogs will host California Lutheran University (CLU) on Tuesday, Sept. 19 at 7:00 p.m. The Regals were the regular season runners-up last season as they went 16-10, 12-3 SCIAC. In 2022 the Bulldogs lost 3-1 at home and 3-0 on the road. Overall, the Regals have won 24-straight and hold a 40-4 all-time advantage.
Ending their three-game home stand will be Friday, Sept. 22 at 7:00 p.m. with Caltech. The Beavers swept the two-game series in 2022 and currently hold a four-game winning streak against the Maroon and Grey. Caltech was sixth in SCIAC at 8-12, 5-10 SCIAC. The Bulldogs, however, have won 27-of-32 all-time meetings.
The next day after the Caltech matchup the Bulldogs will travel to Orange County to face Chapman University for a 4:00 game against the Panthers. Last season the Panthers won both matchups 3-0. Chapman finished one spot outside the SCIAC Tournament in fifth place with a 9-15, 7-9 SCIAC record.
On Tuesday, Sept. 26 Redlands will play their final home game of the month as they host Occidental College at 7:00 p.m. inside Currier. The Bulldogs' lone conference win came at home against the Tigers when they earned a sweep. Game two on the road was a five-set loss, 3-2. In 2022 Occidental was eighth in the conference standings at 6-17, 3-13 SCIAC.
The first month of the season comes to a close on Friday, Sept. 29 when they travel to Claremont to face Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (CMS) at 7:00 p.m. The Athenas won the regular season and postseason tournament last season and finished undefeated 16-0 in SCIAC and 30-1 overall. CMS lost to Trinity University (Texas) in the regional final as the No. 1 seed. The Athenas swept the Bulldogs in both matchups last year.
October will be a very important month as Redlands plays 10 games with six of them occuring on the road. The month, though, does start inside Currier as Pomona-Pitzer comes in for a 7:00 p.m. game on Tuesday, Oct. 3. The Sagehens finished tied for third at 17-9, 11-5 SCIAC. Redlands lost both games against the Sagehens 3-0.
Redlands then starts a four-game road trip with the University of La Verne (ULV) on Friday, Oct. 6 at 7:00 p.m. ULV tied Pomona-Pitzer for third at 17-10, 11-5 SCIAC. The Leopards won both 2022 games in sweeps.
Game two of the road trip will be the final new opponent of the season and it is Whittier College. The Poets will host on Tuesday, Oct. 10 at 7:00 p.m. Whittier was seventh in SCIAC at 9-16, 5-11 SCIAC in 2022. The Poets dropped only one set in the two games with the Bulldogs last season and overall hold a 16-2 all-time record against the Bulldogs.
On Thursday, Oct. 12 at 6:00 p.m. the Bulldogs will play their final non-conference game of the regular season as they play West Coast Baptist for the second time, this time in Lancaster.
The four-game road trip will end on Tuesday, Oct. 17 at 7:00 p.m. in Los Angeles as they finish their season series with Occidental.
After the extended road stretch, three of the next five to end October will be inside Currier, starting with CMS on Friday, Oct. 20 at 7:00 p.m.
The next four games include road games at Pomona-Pitzer and Cal Lutheran and home games with La Verne and Whittier. The Pomona-Pitzer game is Tuesday, Oct. 24 at 7:00 p.m., La Verne is Friday, Oct. 27 at 7:00 p.m., CLU on Saturday, Oct. 28 at 6:00 p.m., and Whittier is on Halloween, which is a Tuesday at 7:00 p.m.
Caltech will be game one-of-two in November as they travel to Pasadena on Friday, Nov. 3 at 7:00 p.m. They then host Chapman the next day at 4:00 p.m. for senior day.
The SCIAC Tournament will be the following week with the Semi-Finals on Thursday, Nov. 9 and the finals on Saturday, Nov. 11. Times and host sites are to be determined with the higher seed from the regular season hosting and only the top four finishers qualifying.
