The University of Redlands women's volleyball team took on the first-place team in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Tuesday night. The Bulldogs (8-17, 5-9 SCIAC) put up a fight, but dropped a three-set loss to No. 5-ranked Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (23-3, 14-1 SCIAC) on set scores of 21-25, 19-25, 13-25.

Senior middle blocker Sofia Olsson (Cupertino, CA) led the Bulldogs with six kills. Defensively, junior libero Ally Busch (Long Beach, CA) led Redlands with 20 digs on the night.

Things were pretty even in the first set, with both sides putting together scoring runs. It was CMS, however, that would grab some separation about halfway through the set and didn't let go to take the first set 25-21.

CMS carried momentum over into the second and grabbed a 13-9 lead, but turned over the ball on an attack error to put sophomore outside hitter Paige Davidson (Spanaway, WA) at the line. Senior setter Emily Marty (San Diego, CA) dumped a kill down on the next play, before assisting sophomore outside hitter Natalie Starlin (Las Vegas, NV) on a kill. Davidson then served up an ace to tie the set at 13-13.

Busch had an ace to give the Bulldogs a 16-15 lead, but the Athenas responded with a 6-0 run to take control of the set.

Redlands called a timeout and scored the next point, but CMS would take the second set 25-19 to up its advantage to two sets in the match.

Claremont-Mudd-Scripps kept rolling and took the third 25-15 to win the match in three.

The Bulldogs return home for one last home match, hosting La Verne on Friday. The match is set to begin at 7 p.m., with six seniors being honored prior to first serve.
