Bulldog Women's Volleyball Goes Undefeated at Pacific Coast Classic

The University of Redlands women's volleyball team wrapped up a stellar showing at the Pacific Coast Classic with a pair of wins on Saturday to remain undefeated at the tournament.  The Bulldogs cruised by George Fox University (OR) in a three-set sweep (25-15, 25-22, 25-15), before rallying for a 3-1 victory over Northland College (WI) by scores of 25-13, 18-25, 25-13, 25-14.

The Maroon and Gray offense heated up in the final set of each match, earning its best hitting percentage at .407 against GFU and .367 against Northland.

Overall, Redlands looked to the offensive prowess of freshman middle hitter Sofia Olsson (Cupertino, CA) and sophomore outside hitter Kaylee Burdick (Sun Valley, CA) to set the tone.  The duo combined for 43 kills on the day. 

In addition, freshman outside hitter Christina Casey (Sherwood, OR) and freshman middle hitter Sammi Tafoya (Granite Bay, CA) came alive against the Jills of Northland, adding additional fire power with 13 and eight kills, respectively. 

Senior setter Ellie McLeod (Redlands, CA) continued to serve as the primary ball-distributor for the Maroon and Gray, dishing out 57 assists total.  In addition, sophomore setter Jackie Andrade (Seattle, WA) gained some time on the court and ran the offense for six assists.

Defensively, junior Abigail Hickman (Phoenix, AZ) supplied a total of 27 digs, while Burdick stepped up with 22 digs in the win against Northland.

Redlands (4-0) heads back east for the MIT Invitational on September 9-10.  The Bulldogs square off against the host school in their first match on Friday at 1:30 p.m. PDT.
