The University of Redlands volleyball team left it all on the court at Chapman University during Saturday's Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) match, but came up short in a thrilling five-setter against the Panthers.

After falling in the opener, the Bulldogs made some defensive adjustments to quiet the blistering offense on the other side of the net, evening the count after two sets.  The Maroon and Gray then nabbed a 2-1 lead with a solid attacking effort of .256 in the third stanza. Bothe teams uncorked their best hitting percentages of the match in the fourth frame, but the Panthers' was a bit more effective as they once again tied up the score.  Finally, a tight fifth set ensued with neither squad leading by more than two points for the duration.  However, Chapman gained back-to-back kills by its offensive leader, Val Geiger, to close out the deciding stanza and prevail by final scores of 25-15, 24-26, 22-25, 25-14, 15-13.

Redlands looked to a trio of competitors to uncork double-digit kills, with sophomore outside hitter Ashton Martin (Redlands, CA) and sophomore middle blocker Marisa Gile (Yucaipa, CA) registering 15 apiece.  In addition, senior outside hitter Morgan Buckner (San Rafael, CA) knocked down 14 kills, as the group accounted for 44 of the team's 62 put-aways.

Senior libero Brittney Overgaag (Palm Desert, CA) led the Bulldog defense with 23 digs. Buckner and senior setter Alisha Cornick (Hollister, CA) added 16 and 10, respectively.  Freshman middle blocker Allison Jensen (Redlands, CA) provided a solid effort at the net, recording five total blocks, including four solo stops.

Redlands (5-6, 2-2 SCIAC) looks forward to hosting the University of La Verne on Friday at 7:30 p.m.  Fans may follow the action via live stats and web-streaming through Stretch Internet at http://client.stretchinternet.com/client/redlands.portal#.
