Senior Day!

The No. 21 University of Redlands women's tennis team celebrated its seniors with a sweeping victory against Chapman University on Saturday in the Bulldogs' final home Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) match of the season.  After recognizing the respective careers and contributions of seniors Natalie Etchegaray (Placentia, CA), Lauren Villanueva (El Segundo, CA), Gabriela Vasquez (Rancho Santa Margarita, CA), and Alyssa Gilbert (Mukilteo, WA), the Maroon and Gray went right to work in impressive fashion to secure the 9-0 win over the Panthers on Verdieck Courts.

In doubles, Vasquez and junior Emily Murnin (Salt Lake City, UT) set the tone early with an 8-0 blanking of their No. 3 opponents, before freshmen Kate Dolan (St. Louis, MO) and Elizabeth Johnson (Portland, OR) repeated this effort at the No. 2 slot.  Etchegaray and Villanueva completed the doubles sweep with an 8-1 showing at No. 1.

Villanueva made quick work of her No. 2 singles opponent, 6-0, 6-0, before Gilbert officially secured the Bulldogs' win with a 6-0, 6-0 triumph at No. 6.

Redlands continued to cruise in the remaining matches, with Johnson, Villanueva, Vasquez, and Etchegaray all winning in straight sets.

The Bulldogs (13-5, 5-0 SCIAC) head to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges on Friday, April 15, for a 3 p.m. SCIAC showdown against the third-ranked Athenas.
