Prior to Saturday's Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) match, the No. 18 University of Redlands women's tennis team honored its seniors, Maddie Morton (Henderson, NV), Julia Pollak (Holland, PA), and Ceara Sumida (Hilo, HI), who were playing at home on Verdieck Courts for the final time during the regular season.  After facing an early deficit against the No. 26 University of La Verne, the Bulldogs fell short of a celebratory send-off and suffered a 3-6 loss to the Leopards.

La Verne came out firing on all cylinders and effectively nabbed an early 3-0 lead, as the Bulldogs gave up an uncharacteristic sweep of the doubles.

During the singles, the Maroon and Gray rallied to tie it up at three apiece with solid victories at Nos. 4, 5, and 6.  Pollak made quick work of her No. 6 opponent, cruising to a 6-2, 6-0 win, before junior Gabriela Vasquez (Rancho Santa Margarita, CA) followed suit with her 6-3, 6-1 victory at the No. 5 slot.  Sophomore Emily Murnin (Salt Lake City, UT) evened the count by taking down her No. 4 foe, 6-2, 6-0.

However, the Leopards refused to back down, and eventually won all three of the remaining matches, including a pair of extended comeback showings.

Redlands (10-7, 3-3 SCIAC) looks to bounce back in its final two dual-matches, beginning with a trip to Thousand Oaks on Friday, April 10, to face the Cal Lutheran University Regals at 2 p.m.
