The No. 18 University of Redlands women's tennis team made the trek to Glendale on Friday afternoon to take on the Tigers of Occidental College in a Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) match at the Scholl Canyon Golf and Tennis Club. With dominating results at nearly every spot in the line-up, the Bulldogs cruised to a solid 9-0 victory.
The No. 3 doubles duo of senior Maddie Morton (Henderson, NV) and junior Gabriela Vasquez (Rancho Santa Margarita, CA) fired off an 8-1 win to initiate the scoring for the Bulldogs. Senior Julia Pollak (Holland, PA) and junior Lauren Villanueva (El Segundo, CA) quickly followed suit with their 8-1 decision at the No. 2 spot, while senior Ceara Sumida (Hilo, HI) and junior Natalie Etchegaray (Placentia, CA) captured an 8-3 victory at the top slot.
In singles, Redlands won eight of its 12 sets by a score of 6-0. Vasquez, sophomore Emily Murnin (Salt Lake City, UT), and Villanueva all won their respective matches without dropping a single game, while Pollak cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 6. Furthermore, Sumida recorded a 6-0, 6-4 triumph at No. 2 to complete the straight-set performances.
Redlands (9-5, 2-1 SCIAC) heads to Anaheim Hills Racquet Club on Saturday, March 28, to square off against No. 33 Chapman University in a SCIAC showdown at 2 p.m.
