The No. 13 University of Redlands women's tennis team returned to the friendly confines of Verdieck Courts on Friday, taking down the No. 23 Tigers of Trinity University (TX) in an in-region bout by a score of 6-3.  After earning a 2-1 lead in doubles, the Bulldogs won three of the first four singles matches off the court to secure the victory.

The top tandem of senior Jessica Ly (Torrance, CA) and junior Ceara Sumida (Hilo, HI) fired off an impressive 8-2 performance to get the Maroon and Gray on the board.  The sophomore pair of Lauren Villanueva (El Segundo, CA) and Gabriela Vasquez (Rancho Santa Margarita, CA) then put together a solid 8-5 triumph at the No. 3 slot.

After the Tigers rallied for a win at the No. 2 position, the Bulldogs opened the singles with sophomore Natalie Etchegaray's (Placentia, CA) blanking of her No. 2 opponent to make it a 3-1 advantage for the Maroon and Gray.  Villanueva kept things rolling for Redlands by dropping her No. 6 opponent, 6-0, 6-4.

After Trinity cut the deficit to 2-4 with a win at No. 3, the Bulldogs sealed the important regional victory with Sumida's comeback showing that saw her rattle off 10-straight games to prevail by scores of 2-6, 6-3, 6-0 at No. 4.

Junior Paige Press (La Jolla, CA) also recorded a positive result for the Maroon and Gary, taking down her No. 5 counterpart, 6-2, 6-4.

Redlands (4-2) faces No. 21 University of Mary Washington (VA) on Saturday at 10 a.m. on Verdieck Courts.  Tomorrow's match also includes the fun of the USTA Campus Kids' Day, which is designed to expose more junior players, their parents, and coaches to collegiate tennis.
