The University of Redlands women's soccer team welcomed the Athenas of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges to Farquhar Field on Wednesday night for an important Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) showdown.  Amidst an evenly-matched contest, the teams combined for three goals in an eight-minute span but the final outcome left Redlands with a 1-2 loss

CMS earned a pair of corner kicks early in the game, but the Bulldogs put up the first shot, as junior midfielder Hayley Romo (Port Orchard, WA) unleashed an attempt that forced the visiting goalkeeper to make a save.

Redlands continued to press offensively, with sophomore midfielder Hanya Loskutoff (Dublin, CA) and senior forward Mollie Craighead (Descanso, CA) each recording shots in the first half.

Midway through the second period, Loskutoff orchestrated an excellent look for junior midfielder Rachel Tungol (San Ramon, CA), who misfired the shot just wide.

Moments later, CMS mustered the game's first goal to take the lead in the 71st minute.

Nonetheless, the Bulldogs immediately answered with the equalizer less than three minutes later, as Tungol and Romo connected with junior defender Madison Mills (San Ramon, CA), who launched the ball deep into the box, where it bounced over the goalkeeper's head and into the goal.

With about 18 minutes to go, both teams stepped up the level of intensity with tenacious play in multiple back-and-forth sequences.

However, CMS managed the eventual game-winner on a long blast from about 20 yards out.

With time ticking away, Redlands earned a free kick just outside of the box, which junior defender Louisa Alstot (Portland, OR) did her best to place above the Athena goalkeeper but to no avail.

Redlands (6-4, 3-4 SCIAC) hosts Faculty Appreciation Day on Saturday, October 7, at 11 a.m. against No. 24/25 Cal Lutheran University on Farquhar Field.
