The University of Redlands women's soccer team took to the road for Wednesday's Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) contest at Chapman University. Despite upping the ante in the second half and earning six corner kicks to Chapman's one, the Maroon and Gray could not capitalize on the scoring opportunities, taking a tough, 0-2, loss.

Each team earned two shots in the first 12 minutes of action, with sophomore forward Bryn Anderson (Tahoe City, CA) taking charge by firing off both for Redlands and forcing the Chapman goalkeeper to come up with the saves.

Chapman converted a free kick near the top of the box in the 18th minute to go ahead, 1-0, in the first half.

Sophomore midfielder Alexa Glick (Boise, ID) worked to equalize the score in the 30th minute, while senior forward Mollie Craighead (Descanso, CA) had a nice look at the 40-minute mark. But the Chapman goalkeeper made both stops to keep the Bulldogs off the board.

The first few minutes of the second stanza saw nice offense and counterattacks from both teams. Redlands gained its best scoring opportunity at the 53:45-mark when junior defender Madison Mills (San Ramon, CA) placed a beautifully arched corner kick that found the head of freshman defender Abby Nordquist (Gig Harbor, WA), who whipped it towards goal, but it sailed just over the crossbar.

Chapman notched the insurance goal at the 71-minute mark on a one-v-one opportunity.

Nonetheless, senior defender Erin Schlosser (Sammamish, WA), sophomore defender Bria Bowton (Spokane, WA), and sophomore midfielder Mel Johnson (Bremerton, OR) worked hard to keep the ball in Redlands' offensive third, which resulted in additional corner-kick opportunities. Junior defender Louisa Alstot (Portland, OR) did her part by taking four of the six kicks to try to capitalize on Redlands' offensive momentum.

Unfortunately, time was not on the Bulldogs' side, as the clock ticked down to signal the end of the game with Redlands on the losing end of a 2-0 decision.

Senior goalkeeper Hannah Menk (Pleasanton, CA) finished the complete-game effort with seven saves.

The Bulldogs (5-3-0, 2-3-0) return home to Farquhar Field on Saturday, September 30, to face the University of La Verne in an 11 a.m. contest.
