The University of Redlands women's soccer team took to the road for a Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) match-up between the Whittier College Poets on Saturday night. After getting down, 0-1, in the first half, the Bulldogs rallied to light up the scoreboard twice in the second and take home the impressive 2-1 comeback win.

The first 22 minutes of action saw the teams taking four shots each, with senior forward Mollie Craighead (Descanso, CA) owning two for Redlands.  Following more back-and-forth action, sophomore forward Hanya Loskutoff (Dublin, CA) provided two quality looks, with one going on goal.

Whittier took advantage of a corner kick to put the Bulldogs in a 0-1 hole in the 35th minute of the first stanza.

Although the Maroon and Gray had three more scoring opportunities before halftime, none was successful, leaving Redlands with work to do in the second.

Following a pump-up speech from Head Coach Suzette Soboti, the visiting team came out with a revitalized energy and sense of urgency.  Sophomore forward Alexa Groesser (Denver, CO) took those words to heart in the first two minutes.  She dribbled her way around defenders and rocketed one through the posts for the 1-1 equalizer.

This lit a fire in both teams, as each uncorked shots and earned corner kicks. In the 63rd minute, junior defender Louisa Alstot (Portland, OR) served a nice ball to Groesser, who found the back of the net for the eventual game-winner.

But with plenty of time left in the game, senior goalkeeper Hannah Menk (Pleasanton, CA) had to step up to the defensive challenge by making six huge saves in the last 30 minutes to secure the 2-1 Bulldog victory.

The Bulldogs (4-1, 1-1) return home to Farquhar Field on Wednesday, September 20, for a SCIAC game against Occidental College at 7 p.m.
