The University of Redlands women's soccer team hosted the Athenas of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges in a Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference showdown on a cloudy Wednesday night under the lights of Farquhar Field. The Athenas scored early, but Redlands continued to fight, notching a goal in the first half. However, the home team ultimately fell by a final score of 1-3.

CMS arrived in Redlands ready to play, as the visitors fired off two quick goals to force an uphill battle for the Maroon and Gray.

Late in the first half, the Maroon and Gray created good offensive rhythm and drove the ball into the Athenas' defensive third, where the Bulldogs earned a corner kick. Sophomore midfielder Lauren Bay (Oak Park, CA) took the kick and placed it in front of the goal. After the ball bounced off of several players, it found the foot of freshman forward Hanya Loskutoff (Dublin, CA), who banged it home for the score.

Although the Bulldogs outshot the Athenas, 10-8, in the first frame, only one was successful in finding the back of the net.

Entering the second stanza, both teams were hungry for more goals. Redlands' defensive crew of senior Faith Campbell (Bainbridge Island, WA), junior Erin Schlosser (Sammamish, WA), and freshman Louisa Alstot (Portland, OR) held a strong backline and forced CMS off-sides on five occasions. Junior goalkeeper Hannah Menk (Pleasanton, CA) also provided great defense by making five key saves to keep the score close.

Unfortunately for the Bulldogs, CMS ultimately registered an insurance goal in the second half, resulting in a tough loss for the Bulldogs.

Redlands (2-5-1, 1-3-1 SCIAC) travels to Pomona-Pitzer Colleges on Saturday, October 1, for an 11 a.m. SCIAC match.
