The University of Redlands women's soccer team took on the NAIA's seventh-ranked Westmont College Warriors in a non-conference showdown on a beautiful Wednesday night at Farquhar Field.  The Bulldogs battled against the high-pressure offense but came up short of the upset in a 0-4 loss.

Although the Warriors played fast and tough all game, the Maroon and Gray backline of seniors Faith Campbell (Bainbridge Island, WA) and Sammie Burghardt (Gig Harbor, WA), and junior Erin Schlosser (Sammamish, WA) held its space, which forced the Warriors off-sides seven times during the game.

Despite Redlands' great defensive efforts, Westmont capitalized on its first corner kick in a quality set piece just 2:22 into the game.

This lit a fire within the Bulldogs, leading to several linked passes up to senior midfielder Erin Lau (Reno, NV), who fired off a shot that was saved by Westmont goalie Amber Rojas. Just minutes later, sophomore midfielder Lauren Bay (Oak Park, CA) got in on the action by blasting off a quick blast but was blocked by a Warrior defender.

Junior goalkeeper Hannah Menk (Pleasanton, CA) patrolled the Redlands goal for the full 90 minutes and finished the game with an impressive 14 saves.

Unfortunately, the Warriors' offensive skills resulted in a tough 0-4 loss for the home team.

Redlands (1-2) continues to prepare for the upcoming conference schedule by scrimmaging against the University of Antelope Valley on Saturday, September 10, at 7 p.m. on Farquhar Field.  The Bulldogs open Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) action on Wednesday, September 14, when they travel to Thousand Oaks to take on the Cal Lutheran University Regals at 7 p.m.
