Bulldog Women's Soccer Holds Strong in 1-0 Nail-Biter against Cal Lutheran

The University of Redlands women's soccer team continued its Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) schedule in Thousand Oaks on Wednesday night by facing off against the Cal Lutheran University Regals. The Bulldogs relied on a solid defensive stand and a late first-half score to come out on top in a much-needed, 1-0 victory.

The Bulldogs had minimal chances throughout the contest, with just four opportunities coming in the first half. Junior midfielder McKenzie Oliger (Seattle, WA) was at the helm of the offensive action by firing off Redlands' first three shots. Junior defender Sammie Burghardt (Gig harbor, WA) assisted in the Bulldogs' positive offensive aggression as well.

The Maroon and Gray took advantage of the final opportunity that presented itself in the 41st minute, when senior midfielder Cassie Lively (Redmond, WA) hammered home a score following a deflection from the Regal goalkeeper, which was influenced by senior midfielder Isabella Baez (Zionsville, IN).

Senior goalkeeper Lexi Felix (Kailua, HI) set the tone for the Bulldogs in the second half of action by hauling in three saves in crucial moments, with one coming late in the game to keep the home team off the scoreboard.

Despite Cal Lutheran firing off 13 shots in the second half, Redlands' defensive unit of sophomore Faith Campbell (Bainbridge Island, WA), senior Sam Keary (Mission Viejo, CA), and sophomore Erin Schlosser (Sammamish, WA) assisted Felix in earning the 1-0 shutout victory.

Felix finished the night with four saves en route to her fifth victory of the year.

Oliger led the charge with three shots, while senior midfielder Savannah Laursen (Boise, ID) and Lively each knocked off a pair of scoring attempts.

The Bulldogs (6-3-2, 5-3-1 SCIAC) return home on Saturday, October 17, to face off against the Pomona-Pitzer Colleges Sagehens at 7 p.m. on Farquhar Field.
