Bulldog Women's Soccer Ignites Late-Game Fireworks for 1-0 Victory over Chapman

The University of Redlands women's soccer team continued Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) action on Wednesday, September 30, by facing off against the Chapman University Panthers in Orange. After a lengthy standstill on the offensive end for both squads, freshman forward Lauren Bay (Oak Park, CA) put the Bulldogs on top in the 88th minute with the game-winner for an exciting 1-0 victory.

The Bulldogs hammered off five shots in the opening half, with senior forward Jen Franklin (Shoreline, WA) taking the lead with three shots-on-goal. Junior midfielder Erin Lau (Reno, NV) also fired off a quality look toward the high corner with a curving blast, but to no avail.

Sophomore goalkeeper Hannah Menk (Pleasanton, CA) acted as a brick wall by allowing zero goals and hauling in seven saves in the first 45 minutes of action.

The Maroon and Gray saw minimal chances in the second frame, as senior midfielder Savannah Laursen (Boise, ID) and junior midfielder McKenzie Oliger (Seattle, WA) each fired off a shot.

The Bulldogs finally broke through in the 88th minute, as Bay took control by blasting home the eventual game-winning score for the first goal of her young career at Redlands.

Senior goalkeeper Lexi Felix (Kailua, HI) took over as the Maroon and Gray's goalkeeper and scooped up four saves in a shutout performance during the second half.

Redlands (5-1-1, 4-1-0) kicks off the month of October by traveling to the University of La Verne on Saturday, the 3rd, for a 7 p.m. SCIAC match.
