The University of Redlands women's soccer team took on the Chapman University Panthers on Saturday afternoon in a Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) showdown in Orange. Despite cranking off 21 shots, the Bulldogs ended in a 1-1 tie.

The Bulldogs came out with guns blazing, as they fired off eight shots in the first period. Senior forward Tanya Haggen (Bellingham, WA) kicked off the scoring attempts for the Maroon and Gray by blasting off a shot in the 11th minute. She added another shot to her total later in the first frame. Sophomore midfielder Kate Frame (Fox Island, WA) matched Haggen's shot total by blasting two in the first period as well.

In the 42nd minute, junior forward Jen Franklin (Shoreline, WA) put the Bulldogs on the board with a score, assisted by senior defender Amy Pumputis (Redmond, WA). With the goal, Franklin has rattled off three goals over the course of the Bulldogs' last three contests.

Redlands also looked to junior midfielder Savannah Laursen (Boise, ID), junior midfielder Cassie Lively (Redmond, WA), and senior forward Abby Palkowitz (Redmond, WA) to unleash one shot apiece in the opening 45 minutes.

Although the Bulldogs took a 1-0 lead into the second half, Chapman eventually tied up the game with a score in the 55th minute.

Despite the Chapman goal, the U of R stayed true to its offensive plan by firing off seven more shots in the second half. Leading the charge, junior midfielder Summer Norquist (Boise, ID) and Laursen each stepped up with two attempts each in the period.

With the score knotted at one apiece, the game headed into overtime, for Redlands' second extended contest since October 1.

Despite putting up six shots in the two overtime periods, the Bulldogs played to their first official draw of the season.

The Maroon and Gray out-shot the Panthers, 21-15.

Redlands (6-4-1, 4-3-1 SCIAC) returns home to face the Pomona-Pitzer Colleges Sagehens on Wednesday, October 15, on Farquhar Field at 7 p.m.
